The
Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is very common and abundant in the
Northern Hemisphere. It is the ancestor of most domestic ducks. They
are easy to recognize because of the males ducks coloring. The Mallard
nests in grassy areas near water and they feed on insects, snails, aquatic
plants and small fish. This is a headshot of a female mallard. |
