El Cid Campeador, perhaps one of the best-known public sculptures in San Diego, was created by Anna Huntington. Dedicated in 1930, the statue dramatically guards the Plaza de Panama in Balboa Park, San Diego, California.

This larger than life-size El Cid is a replica of the original presented to the city of Seville, Spain, in 1927.

El Cid was a national hero and an awesome warrior. He lived in Spain
