Fleeting
Memories, something we all have from the days of our youth, from jump
rope to playing marbles to riding the carousel.
In 1876, a woodcarver named Charles I.D. Looff started carving carousels
in Brooklyn, New York. In the beginning he did a lot of other animals
along with the horses. As time passed his work was constantly changing
and became more and more flamboyant. The carousel that these horses
are on was built in 1895 and started out in Fairpark, Texas. It has
been moved many times over the years and now resides at Seaport Village
in San Diego, CA. With the music, the movement and the beautiful horses,
this Looff carousel provides people with an opportunity to recapture
their fleeting memories.
