Waving grass and rolling hills are typical on the "high plains." This lush landscape from south central Nebraska is bejeweled by "Tatarian Honeysuckle" (Lonicera tatarica). This perennial shrub is found in pastures as well as other areas and grows
to a height of 10-12 feet at maturity with a 10-12 feet spread. It is widely adaptable to both soil type and moisture, thriving in full sun to full shade. In mid-spring it produces fragrant pink flowers, which attract butterflies, birds and bees, but is resistant to deer. The orangish-red berry produced in the fall, persists into the winter.
