Old
Point Loma |
The Old Point Loma Lighthouse was lit
for the first time on November 15, 1855. Standing 422 feet above sea
level, fog and low clouds often obscured the light, so after 36 years,
on March 23, 1891 the lighthouse was closed and a new lighthouse closer
to the water at the tip of the Point was opened. The old lighthouse
is now a museum, refurbished to look as it did in the late 1800's.
